History
The Campo de Golf Almerimar has established itself as one of the most popular on the Almería Coast,
Opened in 1976 was designed by Gary Player and Rob Kirby. The Golf Course combines water hazards and palm trees
with wide fairways and lush vegetation; they create spots of singular beauty.
In the beginning the Golf Course had 18-holes with Par 72. In the year 2005 the Golf Course was extended with another 9-holes
to a generous golf course with 27-holes, which opens versatile play possibilities for the golf players.
In the year 2006 far parts of the original 18-holes were improved, this project will be finished in November 2007.
Description of the Golf Course
The Campo de Golf Almerimar has 27-holes on a surface of approx. 802.000 m2, embedded into a beautiful landscape delicately
by its singular beauty with palms and lakes, with the marvellous Mediterranean climate of Andalusia. As the only golf course with 27-holes in the province
of Almeria it offers enormous play possibilities and challenges. The golf course has a generous practise area with chipping green with 3 exercise holes,
exercise shelters,
and a putting green with 9 exercise holes. Lovers of this sport will enjoy the wide fairways of the Golf Course.
The Campo de Golf Almerimar offers lots of possibilities for golf players of each level. In addition, it demands also from experienced golfers
a high measure of concentration, it can also be mastered from beginners quite well. Obstacles - like the water surfaces and the skilfully placed bunkers - can
be well played. Bunkers and small ponds very well guard the greens and
the fairways seem to be like carpets.
It has wide treed lined fairways, and large greens, which are well maintained and fast to play on. There are water features at several holes.
The 100 metre over the lake shot to reach the hole 1, with Par 3, makes it a challenging hole on the course.
The lush vegetation affords a pleasant oasis-style feel to a round as the palm trees and lakes create spots of spectacular beauty.
HOLES
HOLE 1: PAR 3.
HCP 11
It is the most spectacular hole of the Golf Course. A wonderful Par 3 with the Green totally surrounded by water and a bunker in front.
This Hole demands from the player a psychological concentration, the player focuses more on the water hazard than on the Green.
The ball needs to fly more than 110m to cross the water hazard.
Iron nr. 4 or nr. 5
HOLE 2: PAR 4.
HCP 1
It is one of the most challenging Holes on the Course, there are no difficulties with the Driver because the Fairway opens up very generous to the left.
Reaching the Green is were the challenge begins, the Green is settled between 2 bunkers and has a length of 20m.
It would be complicated if a Club with too long reach would be used.
Driver, Wood nr. 5 or Iron nr.3
HOLE 3: PAR 5.
HCP 5
This is a hole nice to be played. The beginning has a generous fairway and if you pass the 2 bunkers with the second stroke
then the third is an easy play, there are no more hazards to pass.
Driver, Wood Nr. 3 and Wedge
HOLE 4: PAR 4.
HCP 3
To avoid problems with the start the focus should be on the left side of the fairway, if the ball goes too much
to the right it could end up in the bunker or water. The second stroke should go as straight as possible to reach the Green without difficulties.
Driver, Wood 5 or Iron nr. 3 is sufficient
HOLE 5: PAR 4.
HCP 13
It is one of the nicer holes on the Course, the only challenge is to avoid the huge bunker that defends the Green.
Driver and Wedge
HOLE 6: PAR 4.
HCP 9
The first stroke should be oriented more to the right of the fairway to avoid the bunker at the left side.
The second stroke is easier because the fairway is wide open to the Green.
Driver and Iron nr. 7 or 8
HOLE 7: PAR 3.
HCP 15
This hole has it challenges in the bunker hazard at the right side of the Green,
if the flag is too much to the right side it could become more difficult.
Iron nr. 4 or nr. 5
HOLA 8: PAR 5.
HCP 7
This Hole with Par 5 is one of the most beautiful holes to be played on the Course, the second stroke has to be placed short,
because of the bunker hazard at the left side and the water hazard on the right that goes along the whole fairway.
The Green has 2 platforms and goes along a water hazard.
Driver, Iron nr. 4 or 5 and Wedge or Iron nr. 9
HOLE 9: PAR 3.
HCP 17
This is a easy Par 3 where a bunker defends the Green, if the bunker can be passed by the ball the stroke will be easier.
Iron nr. 5 or nr.6
HOLE 10: PAR 5.
HCP 6
A complicated Dogleg leading to the right. With a lake to the right of the tee which crosses ahead of the tee
and continues to the left the full length of the fairway almost reaching the green.
Therefore the first stroke does not have to be far so as not to cross the fairway and end up in the water.
The second stroke is narrow and should be taken with an iron. The third stroke must be high to avoid the two bunkers before the green.
Wood 3 or 5 , 5 iron , wedge or 9 iron.
HOLE 11: PAR 4.
HCP 8
At first sight this seems an easy hole, but once started you realize it´s difficulty. With a bunker on either side of a driver,
you must get a good stroke to fly over. The second stroke is just a cunning, with a lake to the right almost surrounding the sloped green
it is necessary to center the ball so it doesn´t roll into the water.
Driver , Iron 6 or 7
HOLE 12: PAR 4.
HCP 16
Without much difficulty. Broad comfortable fairway. A flying stroke to the green avoiding the bunkers to either side
and the narrow entrance to the green.
Driver , Iron 8 or 9
HOLE 13: PAR 4.
HCP 14
This hole is easy as long as keep away from the trees on the left which can obstruct your second stroke.
The green of this hole is the trickiest of the whole course. Always play a short ball to avoid passing the green
as it is easy to end up needing 3 putts on the slope.
Driver , Iron 8 or 9
HOLE 14: PAR 4.
HCP 10
A Dogleg to the left. The wide fairway allows a driver without any difficulty and the green is open for the second stroke.
Driver , Iron 6 or 7
HOLE 15: PAR 3.
HCP 18
Easy enough but the green is protected by 3 bunkers, but as it is relatively large it is easy to reach.
Iron 7 or 8
HOLE 16: PAR 4.
HCP 2
A long par 4 hole. A driver without any problems, but the entry into the green is very narrow also it is guarded by two bunkers.
The situation of the flag also has great influence. One of the more difficult green of the course.
Driver, Wood or Iron 3
HOLE 17: PAR 4.
HCP 12
Quite a comfortable hole, drive at the tee, aim for to avoid the bunkers in the center of the fairway.
The second stroke should be not be difficult but seen as the green has three levels it can be difficult
to putt if the ball doesn´t land in the right place.
Driver, Iron 9 or wedge
HOLE 18: PAR 5.
HCP 4
Fairly easy if you calculate well. A Dogleg to the left. Keep to the right of the fairway. In this hole the key is in the second stroke,
the green is separated from the fairway by a lake surrounding it to the right and behind.
It is convenient to play an easy iron to place the ball in the green.
Driver, Iron 5 and wedge.
PRACTISE COURT
The golf course has a generous practise area with chipping green with 3 exercise holes,
exercise shelters, and putting green with 9 holes.
HOLES IN IMPROVEMENT
At the moment 9 of the original holes are in an improvement process and it is expected to be finished by the end of November 2007,
then all 27 holes will be opened at the same time.
